Why We Cannot Have Nice Things

The current occupant of the White House, little Donny Buffoon, has taken the United States somewhere we have never gone before. We have now joined with the terrorist nations and the authoritarian regimes in real time during a vote at the United Nations where we opposed a resolution demanding an immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. For the first time that I am aware of, the US voted against our NATO and European allies and with Russia, China, and North Korea.

This is why we cannot have nice things anymore.

Watching the nations of Europe, our former(?) allies, supporting Ukraine and promising to stand with them against the aggression of Russia, while the US was absent from the table was jarring. It felt like a scene from a move where the former good guy walks off with the bad guys…oh, wait that’s exactly what has happened.

The United States is no longer a reliable partner in the global defense of democracy. How does that make you feel? I’m angry, afraid, sad, overwhelmed, and motivated.

In a matter of weeks, our nation has gone from the world leader to a sniveling lap dog of Russian propaganda. Little Donny has turned us into a pariah. Or in his terms, “a shithole country.” Our European allies have done what they must - they have moved on. Yes, Macron tried to flatter little Donny, but Donny showed his true colors and repeated Russian talking points. And Macron corrected him to his ugly face.

Look, tRump is just a bully. And like all bullies, he is a coward. Stand up to him, he’ll back down. We have seen examples of this even recently. The Governor of Maine stood up to him. Shut him right down. We need more of this. Why does little Donny ignore court rulings? Because they don’t reach him, they go to his lawyers and he can make big, strongman statements because he’s hiding behind them. But when he is confronted and challenged to his face, the real child inside, the little coward he is, is exposed and he slumps down.

Little Donny is not a strong man. He is actually quite weak.

We can see this in who he attacks. He always punches down. He looks to inflict damage on “the least of these.” Currently that would be the transgender community and the undocumented folks. You know who else is a coward? Pretty much everyone in this clown cabinet. Musk (not in the cabinet, just effing around in everything)…don’t even get me started. He is more thin-skinned than little Donny, and that is saying something! These people are not leaders and they contribute nothing to our country.

With a few rare exceptions, the Republicans have completely caved to the man-child and his “base.” They’re base alright. Surely, there are some Republicans out there in the Senate or the House who have qualms about what is happening in our country? Surely, they are not all onboard with what little Donny is doing? Surely, they are grabbing their testicles as we speak from the drawer they hid them in and planning to take down tRump for good? Surely? Anyone? Anyone?

I guess it is up to us.

At this point, I would like to say, we need to start preparing for the mid-term elections. Unfortunately, I am reminded of something little Donny told his Evangelical audience during the campaign. At a Turning Point Action event in July 2024, he said, "Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians." I think they call this “saying the quiet part out loud.”

And of course, when asked about it, he and his staffers passed it off as just one more example of little Donny’s wildly exuberant sense of humor. I mentioned this in a post a few days ago. Joyce Vance made this point yesterday as well. Unfortunately, we have seen that little Donny and his minions are doing exactly what they said they would do (YOU WERE WARNED!!!). They are who they are. Fascists. And they are not even hiding it anymore.

Whether we have another election in this country any time soon depends on what we do today to prevent the ongoing sacking of our country. Little Donny and his minions have a plan and it has been laid out by several others including Joyce Vance, Robert Reich, and others. The plan? Declare a national emergency and hold no elections until the emergency is over. Which, of course, it will never be over.

The billionaire class are not in this for political gain. Let’s not fool ourselves. They are in it for the sole purpose of enriching themselves even more. Another random comment that little Donny made recently to Macron saying he wanted to go to Fort Knox and make sure the gold was still there. Some say, “Oh he’s not going there, he won’t really do that.” Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Sorry, I wouldn’t put it past this Smash-n-Grab Presidency. Greed is their motivating factor. Of course, he will go there.

If you live in a Republican dominated state, you need to write your senators and congresspeople and try to rouse them to action. I don’t know if we will be successful, but we can’t afford to just stand idly by while our country is stolen from under our feet. I know that the courts are doing the best they can, but we all know what courts mean to little Donny…exactly nothing. Unfortunately, waiting for the courts to actually do something, hell we may already be out of time. The time to act is now. tRump has violated his oath of office so many times in the last few weeks you can take your pick of offenses to file impeachment charges on.

Of course, the clearest example would be the executive order little Donny signed to end birthright citizenship. That is the 14th amendment of the Constitution. Pretty sure wiping out a part of the Constitution is not preserving it. Other possible violations would be his attempt to undermine the apolitical nature of the Federal workforce by firing anyone who is not personally loyal to him. I know he has the right to fire a lot of people, but the personal loyalty pledge is a bit much, don’t you think?

Other moves taken by this regime include impounding Congressionally mandated funds (unconstitutional), allowing the muskrats of DOGE to access the treasury and HHS’ payment systems, and eliminating USAID and the CFPB (illegal if not unconstitutional). Oh, and firing the Inspector Generals also was done illegally. I’m sure there is more, but it’s hard to keep up.

And the one court case that has handed down a ruling has so far been ignored. Imagine that. Judge Ali gave the regime until end of day today to pay up the millions of dollars they are witholding from USAID. This is the one where the billionaire, Elon, stopped funds and resources going to the poorest of the poor around the globe. You know…"the least of these.” You beautiful Christians…are you paying attention?

I don’t know about you, but I’m over this regime. I’ve been calling my senators (McConnell and Paul) and I can’t get through. Not even leave a message, so I am emailing them. I hope they read those emails, but who knows. But I will keep it up. How about you? As Joyce Vance says, “We’re in this together.”
