The Regime Takes the War to the American People
National Guard called in by trump regime sets the stage for an escalation of the take down of democracy.
It seems that while many of us were distracted with the White House Reality TV Show, behind the scenes the border czar was planning to incite and escalate a broader attack on America. I’m telling you, we cannot take our eyes off these snakes.
Yesterday, June 7, 2025 may take on a similar role in American history to December 7, 1941. Interestingly, the Secretary of the Navy, another inexperienced and unqualified person who gave massive amounts of money to trump, John Phelan, twice cited June 7, 1941 as the day of the Pearl Harbor attack. Of course someone else took the blame for that, but any American should know that the “day that will go down in infamy” is December 7, 1941, not June 7, 1941.
Was Phelan projecting? Was the attack in LA planned all along? It seems beyond coincidence that he twice referred to June 7 when talking about one of the darkest days in American history. And now, prophetically or projectingly, here we are. June 7, 2025 is definitely a dark day in our history.
I am not a lawyer as any reader of mine knows, but I can read. There are a lot of people asking if it is legal for trump to federalize the National Guard. Well, it’s not an easily answered question.
First, there is a process that a President would need to go through to federalize the National Guard (NG). From my understanding, a president would seek the governor’s permission before federalizing the NG. But this is trump, so we know that won’t happen.
Second, while the president can take the step to federalize the NG without following the rules, once this is done, the NG is now part of the US Army, and therefore cannot be used in a law enforcement function.
Finally, if the president were to invoke the Insurrection Act, then, the NG can be used against American citizens in any capacity. That, I believe is the process that is now being followed.
Trump being trump, he did not follow any of the rules or procedures to bring in California’s National Guard. In case you need a reminder of what we are dealing with.
A few things to note. Joseph Nunn, a counsel in the Brennan Center’s Liberty and National Security Program, wrote that Trump’s use of the National Guard in Washington, DC in 2020 against peaceful protesters during the George Floyd protests was a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. This is the act that specifies when National Guard units are called up by the president, that they cannot be used for law enforcement issues. Nunn states, that in doing so, “the administration put forward an unbounded interpretation of § 502(f) that risks subverting the broader statutory scheme Congress has created to govern domestic deployment of the military.”1
He goes on to note that if a future president used this “unbounded interpretation” they would be in violation of the Constitution. I don’t think trump has quite done this yet (again, not a lawyer), but it does seem to line up with much that trump does and has been doing since his first term. Pushing the boundaries. He will continue to push the boundaries because it is in his nature. He does not believe that the boundaries apply to him any more than he thinks the rule of law applies to him. It’s all one and the same.
Secondly, this ICE operation, like much of what the republican party does these days, took place on a Friday, and escalated as the lights went down. Now, when you go into a community that is made up of people who are not White, who have endured decades of systemic racism, who do have undocumented (and probably some illegal) residents and start grabbing people off the street…it is not too much to assume that you will get push back.
From everything I have read, ICE did exactly this. One person who said they were there, and I have no reason not to believe them, said that they were taking people off of street corners as they were waiting to be picked up for day jobs. Not just hanging out, lazing about, but waiting to go work in the fields for the day. If you have been to any large city, this is not an uncommon site. To go after these people however is an escalation. People that opposed this were arrested and placed in a detention center. This detention center eventually became the focus of the protests.
Other individuals who were targeted appear to have been undocumented aliens who showed up to check in with Homeland Security as they are ordered to do on a regular basis. So, they show up and get detained and handcuffed and led off to a detention center, no phone calls, no warning, no due process. This is now routine.
In a tweet (because, of course), the Orange Buffoon said, “If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can’t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can’t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!” 2
To be clear - there WERE NO RIOTS and NO LOOTERS. The regime and right wing propaganda will be sure to use this lie that people were looting because it fits their narrative. There were protests and a heavily armed, undocumented police force that calls itself ICE.
Did the protests get violent? Maybe. But it would appear that this was in response to the presence of heavily armed, full combat geared, ICE agents antagonizing and inciting violence. I am not condoning violence, but we do need to make the distinction between the regime provoking the violence and the people actually starting the violence on their own. From everything I have read, ICE provoked it.
This should come as no surprise. ICE has been conducting these kinds of illegal and unethical raids since this mess started in January.
We need to recognize that from June 7 on, we are facing a regime that is now at war with the American people. I don’t think I am overstating that. Trump was at war with the American people in his first term, but because there were some guardrails left, it didn’t escalate quite to this level.
One final thought about this. Stephen Miller is scum. But I need to quote him here. Miller described what was happening in LA as, "An insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States,"3
This sets the stage for the regime to invoke the Insurrection Act, which as Adam Kinziger said on his substack, “is a whole new world.”
Sadly, June 7, 2025 may go down in history as another ‘day that will live in infamy.’ Some may call for backing down after this. That would be a mistake. We need to continue to protest, continue to call our representatives in the Congress and the Senate, and continue to support those who are resisting the regime, the courts.
